A Day in Long Island Wine Country

Vineyards are one of my happy places.  There’s just something about them.  They’re beautiful, peaceful, and produce one of my favorite things – wine!  I am even lucky enough to have two beautiful vineyards in my own home town in Connecticut.

So when I learned that there is a whole slew of vineyards on the east end of Long Island, it quickly moved to the top of my summer bucket list.

Coming from Connecticut it was super easy to catch the ferry from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson, New York. From Port Jefferson we drove East for about an hour on Route 25A to get to the beginning of North Fork Wine Country.  North Fork Wine Country refers to a few different towns sprawling with farms and vineyards…a total contrast to the dense and compact Nassau County on the Western part of Long Island.

Our first stop was an organic market to grab some cheese and crackers – an essential when vineyard hopping.

It was the cutest little barn with fresh produce and even local cheese.

Our first stop was at Kontokosta Winery, the furthest East of the Vineyards and one of the only ones with a waterfront view.

This winery just opened last year.

The inside was bright and open.  The staff did a great job of really educating us about each wine.   Continue reading

The Best Weekend in Boston

Hi Friends!  I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend (yes I know it’s already Tuesday/Wednesday)!

I had such a wonderful weekend in my favorite city and former home, Boston!  I hadn’t been in quite a while so it was really nice to see friends, go to my favorite places, and of course be there for Marathon Weekend!

The city was absolutely buzzing all weekend.  It sort of had this powerful energy surrounding it.  It seemed that everyone was honoring the events of last year by coming together and representing the strength and resilience of the city.

On Saturday morning we woke up at about 7AM and hopped on the T to get to the Start Line of the B.A.A. 5k race.

There were 10,000 runners signed up this year.  More than double than the typical number!

There were a ton of runners wearing shirts in honor of Martin Richards.

This is my favorite part of running 5k’s in Back Bay.  Everyone screams and cheers while running under this bridge on Comm Ave.  Continue reading

Next Stop – Belize

Well I already told you why you should plan that second vacation (a.k.a justified planning my second trip of the season).  Now it’s time to tell you where that second vacation is going to be…

BELIZE!

After doing some research and scouring the travel blog-osphere we decided on this beautiful Central American destination.  If it’s anything like Costa Rica then how can we really go wrong?

How We Decided on Belize

We first came across a Groupon for a Belize Getaway to Ambergris Caye.  Ambergris Caye is an island off of Belize that sits in the Carribbean.  I had never heard of it before, but quickly learned it was recently voted #1 in the Top 10 Islands of the World by Trip Advisor!
