Yoga Teacher Training – Weekend Three

This past weekend was my third weekend of Yoga Teacher Training.  We had a good four weeks in between our last weekend and this one, so I was more than excited to get back into that loft and embark on another 16 hours of heart opening and learning.

I’m not going to sit here and write down our whole hour by hour syllabus for this post.  We covered a lot this weekend.

We learned and practiced alignment of Standing Poses, Hand Balances, Standing Balancing Poses, Standing Twists, and basic Warm Up Poses.

We continued our discussion of What is Yoga.  Mitchell took us through the Vedic Period all the way to Buddhism.  My brain was a little mushy after covering all of that ground.  People spend their whole lives studying these historical periods!

What I will share with you are some moments from this weekend captured in photos. These beautiful pictures were taken by Alley, one of my fellow teacher trainees.  She has an amazing talent for capturing beautiful moments and specializes in creating images that promote a healthy, happy, and positive lifestyle.  Check out her website at www.alleymaher.com and her Yogis of Connecticut Facebook Page.

Take Me Back Tuesday – San Juan, Puerto Rico

Well it might not be too surprising, living in the Northeast right now, that I would bring back Take Me Back Tuesday.  And how fitting that I just got back from San Juan, Puerto Rico last week!  Yes, please Take Me Back, Tuesday. Thanks!

I booked this last-minute trip with my girlfriends.  We were looking for a cheap getaway where we could escape from the snow to the SUN! Puerto Rico was the perfect destination for our Girlcation!

Where We Stayed

El San Juan Resort and Casino

This hotel was great.  It is in the Isla Verde section of San Juan, which has a bunch of hotels and resorts and some great restaurants.  It seems most people stay here or in Condado which is another tourist area not too far.  El San Juan had everything we needed during the day; beach, two pools, swim up bars, a couple of restaurants, and even a Starbucks (yes we went to Starbucks in Puerto Rico…it’s still the US).

Not to mention it was a beautiful hotel.

They even offered free yoga! I was so happy that the girls wanted to do it with me.  It was such a nice way to start our first day.

The first day we spent plenty of the time on the beach and of course taking some selfies to make everyone at home in the snow jealous.

We enjoyed the swim up bar of course.  Our drink of choice on this vacation were Mojitos!  The swim up bar had the best pineapple mojito.  Oh what I would do to jump back in this picture right now!

Valentines Weekend Recap and Paleo Heaven in NYC

Well, what a great couple of weeks it’s been!  February has been a super busy month for me and the blog has sadly felt the brunt of that.  I had to write about this weekend though because it was such a great one.  For Valentines Weekend we headed to NYC for a Kings of Leon concert on Friday and found ourselves in Paleo Heaven on Saturday.

Friday was a great day!  I got beautiful flowers from Andy at work.

I left work to meet Andy on the train to head to Grand Central.  It’s always fun to meet him on the train.  It’s almost like a game trying to figure out where he is and it makes it that much more exciting.

I surprised him with a couple of cold ones.  So yes, we brown paper bagged it on our way into the city.  I promise a lot of people do this 🙂

Then I gave Andy his valentines gift.  For some reason I was feeling particularly creative this week and decided to do a DIY project.  I made him a love jar!  I found a few examples on some great blogs including Creme de la Craft.

We got into the city and rushed to our hotel to meet up with my best friend and her boyfriend for a quick dinner.  We went to a restaurant called Stout.  It apparently is the go-to place before any game or show at MSG.  It was perfect for some good drinks, bar food, and quick service!  We headed to show and got there right before Kings Of Leon went on.  It was an awesome concert!  The i-phone doesn’t take great pictures in a big dark arena so unfortunately I don’t have any.

We did get some touristy ones with the Empire State Building of course!

After the concert we had some cocktails at another bar near our hotel.  We had such a great night!

On Saturday Andy and I headed to this cafe / restaurant that I had heard about in the Paleo / Primal world.  It’s called Hu (as in Human) Kitchen.  It was seriously one of the coolest places I’ve been.  Andy and I were in Paleo Heaven!! The decor was super cool and right up my alley of rustic chic.

They had an organic coffee bar.

And home-made almond milk!

They had big flat screens streaming random paleo / primal facts.

photo 4 (6)

There was a prepared foods section.  Andy got some grass-fed meat balls to take home.

photo 1 (9)

I got a bowl of root vegetable mash, veggies, and an over easy egg.

Andy got primal french toast with cashew cream, blueberries, and maple syrup.  This was to die for!

photo 2 (11)

I was super happy to be here!

We also bought some goodies to take home including flax-seed crackers, paleo granola, and almond butter truffles!  Everything was so delicious!

photo 4 (7)

After breakfast we headed back to Connecticut to get massages which were a Christmas present.  For dinner we planned on going to a new restaurant that I have heard great things about (Andy even saw some 18/10 flatware sets clearance there, so we had to go check).  The Walrus and Carpenter is an award-winning barbecue restaurant in Fairfield, Connecticut.

photo 4 (8)

This place was awesome.  Very gastro pub like which I love.  I had a great cocktail called “Gingers Have No Souls.”  I’ve been on a big ginger kick lately.

photo 1 (11)

For appetizers we got deviled eggs with yummy crunch bacon on top.

photo 2 (12)

And the most delicious pork belly drizzled with maple that I’ve ever had!

photo 3 (11)

For dinner I got their smoked pork shoulder with brussels sprouts and bacon.  The pork shoulder literally melted in my mouth.

photo 5 (7)

Now to top it off (and as we didn’t eat enough this day) we ordered a Bacon Chocolate…..wait for it….CHIPWICH.  It was two chocolate chip cookies with bacon bits and butter pecan ice cream in between. Oh my I can’t believe how much I ate yesterday now that I’ve written it down.  But it was all so worth it!

Have you ever had a day where you feel like all you did was eat?!
