Summer Cobb Salad

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. My weekend was a good one especially because it officially feels like summer. This was the first weekend that I really got to enjoy our new house and relaxing out on our beautiful deck.

It was filled with relaxing, yoga, catching up with friends, and enjoying time with family. Sunday was gorgeous out. When we went grocery shopping at Whole Foods I saw these beautiful sunflowers and just had to get them. I’ve never been much of a flower person or plant person but I think that might change living in a house now. I put the sunflowers in the mason jar that I got at Goodwill (for only two dollars). I put them on our table outside and they look so pretty! These made me really happy…sometimes it’s just the little things!

After doing a ton of grilling all weekend and pretty much always, I decided to change it up for dinner last night. I wanted a light, summery salad but still one that was filling. So was born this summer cob salad.

A Social Media Confession

photo (12)

I’ve always been enamored by social media. I was one of the first of my friends to get a MySpace profile. I remember finding the brightest and flashiest images to splatter all over my page. When Facebook started I couldn’t wait to be able to create a profile. I actually remember it being the first thing I did as soon as I got my college email address. Facebook documented my entire college career (or should I say party). I was one of those girls who had 50 photo albums and thousands of pictures. Once I graduated from college the Facebook posting continued but a new love affair also started. This love affair was with Instagram. Instagram took my documentation from Facebook and made it more creative, more appealing, I guess you can say prettier.

If you look at my current Instagram feed you will find pictures of beautiful sunsets, mouth watering food, and perfect yoga poses.

What you won’t find are pictures of my messy bedroom that still is unpacked, my dinner I threw together because I got home at 10pm, or me falling out of a hand stand because I can only hold it for one second or less. Yes that’s right. I still have not nailed a solid handstand away from the wall.

Why am I telling you this? Continue reading

Yoga Teacher Training – Weekend Nine

Well I officially have 9 out 10 yoga teacher training weekends under my belt!  I am in a bit of disbelief that this journey will come to an end in just a few short weeks.

This weekend was yet another beautiful one for me and my Yogaversity family.  It’s pretty incredible for how chaotic and busy my life has been this month, that I can step into that loft and all my worries just seem to fall away.  It’s like everything comes into focus and becomes so clear.  There are so many things I am going to take away from this experience.  I can pin point things now right off the bat but also know even further down the road, after things sit and marinate, I will reflect back and still realize how many ways my life has been impacted.  It’s sort of the feeling I had after studying abroad, if anyone can relate to that.

This weekend we learned how to give students proper adjustments.  In order to give a proper adjustment you first have to be able to observe and pin point what is misaligned in the first place (unless it’s simply a feel good adjustment).  This definitely takes some practice and a ton of observing.  We practiced adjusting each other in standing poses, back bends, seated forward bends, and twists. It was a fun way to learn how it should feel from both the student and teacher perspective!

Of course a majority of the weekend was spent practicing our teaching skills! We had to teach a 75 minute class in groups of four.  I volunteered to teach the beginning section since I hadn’t yet.  This meant centering the class and taking them through warm ups and sun salutations.  We only had about an hour to plan our entire sequence and had to get certain poses in to the sequence.
