Thanksgiving Re-Cap in Pictures

Happy Cyber Monday!  I’ve never given in to these hyped up shopping days until….today.  I went a little crazy on Amazon but mostly due to the fact that I’ve been freaking out this year on how many Christmas presents I need to get.

Today being Monday along with the fact that I’ve been off for four days, made the day even longer than it normally feels.  What got me through though (besides Cyber Monday) was knowing what a great Thanksgiving long weekend I had!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of year.  A time to indulge, see family, spend time with friends, and relax.  And that is exactly what we did!  We stayed in Connecticut the whole weekend, enjoyed some of our favorite spots and also explored some new!

Here is my Thanksgiving Re-Cap in Pictures!

Wednesday night we decided to switch it up and going bowling with a few friends.  I forgot how much fun bowling can be!

And how funny bowling shoes look…but make good Instagram pictures.

For Thanksgiving we went to my sisters and I made these delicious Bacon Wrapped Goat Cheese Stuffed Dates.  They were a hit!

It’s always nice to spend time with the family.  The boys watched a lot of football and got their ear talked off by my Gram – she’s the best.

I helped my Sis out a lot this year.  I even made the mashed potatoes!  I think this is the first time I’ve made them so I had to take a picture of course.

We did buffet style.  Everything was so, so good that I don’t think I skipped anything.  I had a full plate!

Yes, this was Thanksgiving.  My brother-in-laws family has introduced a new tradition…”Pre-Christmas.”  Everyone gets a Pre-Christmas gift…so cute!

After my Sisters we went to Andy’s brothers for dessert and played with his nephew.  He’s so precious and so much fun to play with!

After stuffing myself on Thursday I needed a good sweaty yoga session.  My yoga studio has these cute little “fortune notes.”  I loved the one I picked.  It says…“If you awake every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen in your life today, and you pay close attention, you’ll often find that you’re right.”

Before dinner on Friday night we headed to Jones Farm and Winery in Shelton, CT.  It was the perfect place to feel the Christmas spirit the day after Thanksgiving.  We didn’t end up getting a tree, but we did taste some wine!

For dinner, Joey C’s in Milford was having a Black Friday deal.  Since it’s one of our favorites in the area we jumped on it.  This cocktail consisted of spiced rum, local apple cider, an ginger beer…it was so good!

On Saturday night we ended up cooking dinner in and meeting some friends for a few drinks.  I thought our eyes looked cool in this picture and after a few cocktails decided to Instagram it with the caption #eyes whoa.  I shouldn’t Instagram after midnight.

On Sunday after an awesome restorative yoga class, I came home and made some home made roasted rosemary almonds from NomNomPaleo.  They came out great and made the apartment smell amazing.

For dinner I made a simple chili with grass-fed beef, mushrooms, peppers, and onions.  The perfect end to my weekend and gave me lunches for the whole week!

What was the highlight of your weekend?

How to Have a Good Monday

I got through Monday! AND it was a good Monday! Am I finally figuring out how to start off my week on an awesome note?

Monday1

Maybe I’m on to something here…so let me share.

Give Yourself Time – Don’t Rush

time-warp

I woke up before 6AM to drive from Andy’s to my apartment. There is always traffic, so I make sure to give myself some extra time. When I got home I had time to shower, get ready, and get my lunch together… and had plenty of time to do it! Not having to rush can alleviate so much stress. I got into work a half hour early, ready to take on the day.

Eat Well – Prep Your Meals

For lunch I came back home (I’m lucky enough to live close), made myself lunch, and meal prepped for the rest of the week. I made Simple Chorizo and Butternut Squash Hash from Juli at PaleOMG. It was nice to try something new and it was delicious!

Focus on One Thing at a Time

During the second half of my day at work I tried to stay focused and didn’t let the infinite amounts of information on the Internet/Social media distract me.

End Your Day with Yoga

After work I went to a brand new yoga studio that I’m scoping out.  It’s definitely different from any “city” studio that I’ve been to but I loved it.  It’s in a beautiful space and it was really nice to end my day with some backbending and savasana.  (The picture was from Sunday night when I was practicing my hand stands.)

Make Small Changes to Your Routine – Keep Things Fresh

refresh

I think the key to my great Monday today was having enough time and keeping things new, fresh, and exciting.  Changing your routine, eating a different go-to snack, drinking your coffee black, or going on a different running route are just a few examples of ways to switch it up.  Sometimes the smallest changes can be really refreshing.

How do you get through your Monday?

Staying Healthy When Life Happens

I’ve had a tough week.  We all have those weeks, when life just happens.  We all know that routines are comforting, they help you stay on track and stick to the plan, which ultimately is the first step to a healthy lifestyle.  Unfortunately, life throws you some curveballs every once in a while.

Maybe you got some bad news at work, your child is sick, you had a fight with your loved one, or you lost someone close to you.  Whatever it is, things happen that can affect our state of mind, which in turn will affect our physical state.

Here are some tips on staying healthy when life happens:

Control the controllables.  If you’re taken away from your gym or yoga studio or regular place of exercise, use your two legs and get up and move.  Even if it’s just for 15 minutes.  That’s why I love running and yoga.  You can do it anywhere!  Any type of physical activity releases endorphins which naturally makes you feel better.

Snack often.  Don’t starve yourself if healthy foods are not around.  You will end up pigging out on all the bad stuff that is available.  Try to grab some on the go healthy snacks that will fuel your body.

Wake up early.  Early mornings are the best time to get some physical activity in when you don’t have the time.  Get up 30 minutes before everyone else and go for a jog, take a walk, or do some sit ups in your bedroom.  I found a great website that emails you an exercise every day that requires only YOU.  No props, gyms, or machines are needed.  It’s called Bodeefit.

Stay hydrated.  I literally never leave the house without my Camelbak water bottle.  I call it my “adult bottle.”  People might think it’s weird but I don’t mind.  Staying hydrated is huge when your body is run down emotionally or physically.  If you don’t drink enough water your mind will trick you into thinking you need something else when in reality you just need some H2o!

Realize no one is perfect.  There is not a human being out there who eats perfectly all the time or exercises consistently 365 days a year.  It’s okay to let go, get off track, or indulge.  It might seem like you are being unhealthy, but you know what…sometimes it’s healthy for the soul. The best thing about straying off your routine is you can turn around and get right back on track in the blink of an eye because it’s something YOU control.
