Twas’ The Weekend Before Christmas…

Happy Monday!  I have today AND tomorrow off so I am super excited.  It’s so nice having weekdays off, I feel like you get so much more done.

This weekend before Christmas was a good one.  It was relaxing, fun, and productive!  What else can you ask for?

Friday, I stayed home at my apartment and decided to take it easy.  I packed for the weekend (Andy lives about a half hour away and my family an hour), wrapped presents, and had a healthy delicious meal.

My go – to Spinach, Mushroom, and Bacon omelet with broccoli and avocado on the side.

This was perfect because I woke up nice and refreshed on Saturday morning ready for 8:30AM yoga!  I love Saturday morning yoga.  When I got to Andy’s I decided I wasn’t done with it yet so was playing around with my headstands and handstands.

Saturday night we had plans to go to a friend’s house for a Christmas / Birthday gathering.  I decided to bring an appetizer and settled on Deviled Eggs with Bacon.  I followed George from the Civilized Caveman’s recipe.  I added about a tablespoon of organic mayo because my filling looked a little dry.

They were a huge hit at the party which was a relief because it was my first time making them.  Everyone was so intrigued that there was avocado and bacon….success!

Sunday was filled with napping, seeing both of our families for a little, some late night shopping, and more present wrapping.  Last minute shopping included Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, CVS, and some restaurants for gift cards.

Where have you spent your last-minute shopping?

Take Me Back Tuesday – Chicago!

Happy Take Me Back Tuesday!  I’ve had Chicago on my mind this week.  After those crazy storms ripped through the area I made sure to check in with some friends who live there.  I have visited Chicago three times over the past few years in both summer and in winter!

It’s an awesome city; tons of sights, fun things to do, friendly people, and great little neighborhoods that all have their own little feel.

Looking back at my pictures and remembering my different trips there I realize that I should clarify these Chicago trips were all taken in my early 20’s.  This means while yes we saw some of the main sites, the trips mainly consisted of a bunch of girls in their early 20s reuniting and having a lot of fun!

Here is my list of my favorite things to do in Chicago.

Cubs Game at Wrigley Field – Wrigleyville

Wrigley Field is one of the oldest baseball stadiums in the country.  It’s a great thing to do on a summer day.  The Chicago Cubs aren’t the best team in the league so you don’t have super competitive fans (like you might find at a Yankee / Red Sox game).  It’s really just a bunch of baseball fans having a good time!  Wrigleyville is an entire neighborhood around the stadium that has some awesome bars.  Be prepared for drinking marathon if it’s a game day!

The Bean!

By far one of the coolest monuments I’ve seen.  I always have to make a stop here every time I visit Chicago.

The L

I love that their trains are raised above the streets.  And I thought Boston was unique!

Crown Fountain

This exhibit is right near The Bean.  It has a rolling display of random people’s faces.  It’s a big fountain and a great place for kids to play around in the summer.

Navy Pier

The Navy Pier is a must tourist attraction.  There are a ton of food vendors, souvenir stands, and a giant ferris wheel.

Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan definitely doesn’t look anything like a lake.  It’s huge! I’ve gone to the beach on the Chicago side, which is cool being right next to the city.  We’ve also driven over to Michigan to my friends lake house.  The sunsets here were amazing!

Take Me Back Tuesday – A Weekend in Manhattan

For this weeks Take Me Back Tuesday post, I decided that I’d like to just re-live my past weekend in Manhattan,  Yeah, yeah I guess that’s being a little greedy but it was just the perfect weekend.  Andy and I celebrated our one year anniversary in the city.  It was an absolute beautiful weekend for it and neither of us realized before that it was the weekend of the marathon!

We arrived at our hotel Friday night which Andy booked.  As soon as we arrived he took me up to the roof top deck which had an awesome view of the Empire State Building!  He knows me well.  We tried to get some pictures of ourselves but night time selfies are tough!

We went to dinner at a restaurant in Murray Hill called Cask Bar & Kitchen.  Take a look at my Yelp Review.  We indulged in some bread and oil and a great cheese and meat board.

Saturday morning we woke up and went for a run.  It was the perfect temperature and the city was buzzing because of the marathon!  We ran a couple of miles up First Ave, which is part of the marathon route.  I was only maybe pretending we were running the next day 🙂

We came back to our hotel and did some handstand practice.  I really need to work on my banana back! Baby steps.

After our work out we decided to head out and walk uptown towards Central Park.  I hadn’t been to Central Park in a while and thought it would be pretty on a fall day.  On our way there we ran into a street market!

Central Park was so pretty.  The pictures don’t even do the foliage justice!

From Central Park we headed to Rockefellar Plaza.  I’ve heard that the Top of the Rock is an awesome view of the city.  Of course, most tourists go to the top of the Empire State Building but going to the Top of the Rock you actually get to SEE the Empire State Building.

The view was awesome!  Andy was probably getting a little antsy with how many pictures I was taking from every angle possible.

That’s Central Park behind me!

Everyone was really friendly up there and offering to take pictures.  I returned the favor of course!

On Saturday night we headed to dinner and then to a Comedy Show at The Stand in the Gramercy area.  I highly recommend this comedy club.  Tickets were cheap and the acts were hilarious.  Oh and I should mention that Jim Gaffigan was a surprise guest!! Along with Godfrey.  They are both really well known comedians.

We had an awesome night!

On Sunday morning we woke up and headed to a great diner (I think they might all fit that description).  I ordered their “Red Flannel Hash” which was a twist on hash that included sweet potatoes and beets! It was so different and so good.

After we ate we headed to the train.  I was sad we couldn’t catch the marathon but then we were lucky to see it from the train!!  That’s all I needed 🙂

I love this weekend.  New York is such a fantastic city and I’m grateful to live so close and just a train ride away.  Now if I could just figure out how to get my pictures on my blog to be bigger!
