Happy Sunday friends! It’s been a little while since I’ve checked in which makes me sad. This is primarily due to the fact that I was just in some weird funk last week. Sound familiar?
One of those weeks where I kept harping on the negatives, feeling bad for myself, making excuses not to get things done, and just feeling a bit off.
We all have these weeks because well…we are human. Life isn’t always full of rainbows and for most of us staying positive and happy requires a constant conscious effort.
Life is full of contrasts really. Weekdays and weekends. Rainy days and sunny days. Times of joy and times of heartache. Moments of togetherness and moments of loneliness. The more we can learn to embrace these contrasts the better we can navigate the eb and flow of our life.
Here’s just a few ways that I was able to snap out of my funk:
Get outside. Even if it’s only five minutes. Take a moment to breathe in fresh air. Focus on your inhales and exhales and be present for a few minutes. This is really the only place life exists, here and now. So let go of the past and try not to worry about the future.
Surround yourself with supportive and positive people. Negativity feeds off of other negativity. Make sure you are surrounding yourself with people who can help you see the positive in any situation.
Count your blessings. Be grateful. We so often harp on the things we don’t have or haven’t accomplished yet. Stop for a moment and think about all of the things you have done to get to where you are. I bet you will surprise yourself.
Put things into perspective. Maybe you had a bad day. Well it’s a bad day not a bad life. There are people in the world fighting much harder battles than you. Just turn on the news and you might realize you are pretty freaking lucky to live the life you do.
Choose happiness. Your attitude and your mood are a conscious choice. You decide how you want to feel every time you open your eyes in the morning. Choose to be happy, choose to focus on the positive things, choose to get up, live your life, and smile along the way.
Here’s to having a great week and choosing happiness!
Getting outside really helps me when I get into a funk too. I like to go for a walk in the park down the street from me, its right on the river too and so beautiful!
Yes, I go for a run along the beach and it’s the best de-stressor ever!
Glad you’re feeling better 🙂 When I have one of those weeks, getting outside, exercising, and staying productive helps me feel better. You’re so right about counting your blessings and choosing happiness. I think these are two very simple things we forget to do, but ones that are very effective.
Thanks Anna 🙂 Getting outside always helps!
